Mayor has not yet issued permit for container depot construction in Rorotan
The Mayor of North Jakarta, Hendra Hidayat, has emphasised that his office has not yet issued a permit for the construction of a container depot planned for the Nusa Kirana Complex in Rorotan, Cilincing District, North Jakarta.
This statement was made in response to protests rejecting the proposed development of the depot within a residential area. “I emphasise that, up to this point, no permit has been issued by the Sub-department of Architecture, Spatial Planning, and Land regarding the proposed construction,” Hendra stated in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Hendra noted that he had met with representatives from the Nusa Kirana Complex on Monday (28/9) to listen to their aspirations regarding the planned container depot in the residential area. According to Hendra, every construction plan must consider various aspects, ranging from the impact on the community and the environment to the traffic conditions in the surrounding area.
His administration maintains that all developments must undergo a thorough assessment, including an Environmental Impact Assessment (AMDAL), as well as an analysis of the potential effects on local residents and surrounding traffic. Hendra reaffirmed that the North Jakarta City Government has not authorised the construction activities in question.
“So, I must emphasise, no permit has been granted for such activities,” he said.
Previously, the Head of the Transportation Sub-department, Rudy Saptari Sulesuryana, stated that the number of logistics truck depots in North Jakarta has reached over 31 units. This situation has led to a high volume of logistics container trucks operating in the area.
These trucks, according to Rudy, serve export and import activities, transporting containers from the Port of Tanjung Priok to depots located outside the port area. Additionally, trucks often queue to collect containers from depots to be delivered into the port.
“In this process, the frequent cause of congestion is the queues at the depots, and that is what we are attempting to mitigate together,” he added.
