Mayor Fadly Amran and PRR Task Force Inspect Flood Impact in Padang
The impact of the floods that struck Padang City on 3 August 2026 has drawn serious attention from the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Satgas PRR) for the Sumatra Region. Padang Mayor Fadly Amran held an audience and inspected the flood impact together with the Head of the Monitoring and Evaluation Team of the Sumatra Post-Disaster PRR Task Force, Police Brigadier General Yopie Indra Prasetya Sepang, and team members at the White House, the official residence of the Padang Mayor, on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
Also present were elements of the Padang City Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, several heads of relevant agencies within the Padang City Government, as well as the Sumatra V Padang River Basin Agency and other related parties. Following the audience, the PRR Task Force, together with Mayor Fadly Amran and officials, inspected several locations severely affected by the floods in Kuranji Sub-district, Kuranji District, namely Lapau Munggu RT 01 and RT 02 RW 06 and the Guo area RT 03 RW 06.
The inspection was also carried out in the By Pass Air Pacah area, Koto Tangah District. Fadly Amran said that the 3 August 2026 flood was the second occurrence after Padang City was hit by a hydrometeorological disaster in November 2025.
This condition indicates that there are still vulnerable points requiring central government intervention, so the proposed Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Plan (R3P) needs to be updated to cover all affected areas. “We want flood management to not only focus on physical construction, but to be integrated with long-term disaster management and mitigation systems,” said Fadly Amran.
Fadly Amran stated that the total flood management needs for Padang City in the R3P document amount to approximately Rp955.771 billion. The proposals include the construction of the Air Pacah retention basin, drainage improvements in the Bypass area in front of the Mayor’s Office, repairs to the crossing channel in front of Aciak Mart, and normalisation of Batang Maransi.
“Also the construction of flood control for Batang Guo, sediment control for Batang Guo, the creation of a geoportal, and the provision of flood sensors at Batang Kuranji. We hope all these proposals can be accepted by the central government,” he said.
Police Brigadier General Yopie Indra Prasetya Sepang assessed that the Padang City Government’s steps in handling the disaster impact have been swift, both in emergency response and in the progress of rehabilitation and reconstruction. “We have inspected several locations and observed that the flooding is a recurring event. Therefore, a more in-depth discussion is needed regarding the handling pattern,” said Yopie.
According to him, the 3 August flood in Padang City is a recurring event that requires more in-depth discussion, including regarding the proposal to add activities to the master plan. Yopie explained that the results of the monitoring and evaluation specifically for post-flood handling in Padang City will serve as evaluation material for the PRR Task Force to be conveyed to the central government, including the Padang City Government’s proposal regarding the addition of R3P components.
“What the Mayor conveyed regarding the request will be forwarded to the Minister of Home Affairs as the Task Force Head for the acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction,” he said.
