Mayor criticized for hiring workers

CIREBON, West Java: Cirebon municipal councillors lashed out on Thursday at a recent decision by the Cirebon mayor to hire 100 contract workers as permanent employees at the administration.

Suryana, speaker of the Cirebon municipal council, said the decision was unlawful because that was made without the consent of the municipal council. The move would also burden this year's municipal budget, said Suryana. -- JP
