Sorong (ANTARA) - The Maybrat Regency Government together with TNI-Polri distributed food aid to the community in Sori Village, South Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, Southwest Papua, as part of the government’s attention following the shooting incident that killed two TNI AL members.

Maybrat Regent Karel Murafer in Sorong on Wednesday explained that the presence of the government along with security apparatus aims to serve the community while strengthening closeness with residents.

“Security is a shared responsibility. If the area is safe, development will run well,” he said.

He also urged the community to support the local government and TNI-Polri apparatus on duty in the Maybrat area to maintain security stability.

In addition, the local government together with Forkopimda has held a coordination meeting to provide reinforcement to the community to remain calm following the incident.

On that occasion, the local government distributed aid in the form of rice and drinking water to the residents of Sori Village to meet the community’s needs without having to leave the village.

“This aid we hand over so that the community does not need to leave the village. The presence of security apparatus is to protect us all,” he said.

Meanwhile, Maybrat Police Chief Kompol Ruben Obed Kbarek said that his side together with TNI and the local government continues to strive to provide a sense of security to the community post-attack incident.

He stated that security apparatus has also coordinated with the district head, community figures, and church parties to keep the situation conducive.

Previously, the shooting incident occurred in Sori Village, South Aifat District, on Sunday (22/3) around 07.00 WIT. The incident resulted in two TNI AL soldiers falling and one personnel injured.

The two fallen Marines are Private Marine Posthumous Andi Suvio and Private Marine Posthumous Elki Saputra. Both bodies have been returned to their families after a laying and farewell ceremony.
