Maybank Group is targeting the mobilisation of USD 73 billion in sustainable financing across Southeast Asia by 2030. President & Group CEO of Maybank Group, Dato’ Sri Khairussaleh Ramli, stated that Maybank continues to support customers in turning transition challenges into opportunities. He noted that the target reflects the group’s commitment to embedding sustainability into its business strategy to create long-term value, strengthen economic resilience, and deliver positive impact for communities across ASEAN. Previously, in 2025, Maybank Group had mobilised approximately USD 43 billion in sustainable financing, surpassing its earlier target. According to Dato’ Sri Khairussaleh, this achievement reflects the growing momentum of sustainable financing in the region. He explained that Maybank not only finances green projects but also supports sectors in transition, including high-emission industries, through efficiency improvements, adoption of cleaner technologies, and the development of credible transition pathways. By 2025, Maybank’s social initiatives had reached around 1.5 million beneficiaries and mobilised social impact investments worth approximately USD 7 billion. This was supported by a two-pronged approach of social financing and social empowerment programmes launched the previous year. He also highlighted Indonesia’s strategic role in driving sustainable growth in ASEAN as the region’s largest economy, stressing that collaboration between the government and the private sector is needed to turn policy direction into real action that yields economic benefits for businesses and society. Meanwhile, President Director of Maybank Indonesia, Steffano Ridwan, said the transition to a low-carbon economy is becoming a strategic necessity for businesses amid increasing demands for decarbonisation, climate risk management, and Net Zero Emission targets. He stated that as a financial institution committed to supporting the sustainability agenda through sustainable finance, Maybank Indonesia encourages industry players to manage risks, seize growth opportunities, and access financing solutions that support sustainable business transformation. Ridwan noted that investment in transition is no longer merely about regulatory compliance but has become a real necessity to ensure business continuity and create long-term value. He observed that one of the main drivers of transition investment is the growing pressure from global markets regarding ESG compliance, which increasingly determines corporate competitiveness, especially for export-oriented businesses. He urged companies to begin their transition processes immediately, as doing so will help them become more competitive in the global market. Furthermore, transition investment is seen as capable of strengthening business resilience amid economic uncertainty and energy price volatility, with companies shifting to renewable energy and more efficient technologies able to reduce operational costs while enhancing long-term competitiveness.
