PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk is preparing to spin off its Sharia business unit. Director of the Sharia Business Unit at Maybank Indonesia, Romy Buchari, stated that digitalisation is one of the strategies to enable Maybank’s Sharia unit to compete with other banks.

Romy explained that the total Sharia banking assets at Maybank Indonesia have reached Rp 40-45 trillion, equivalent to 25% of total assets. Based on the consolidated financial performance for the 2025 fiscal year, Sharia assets accounted for 24.7% of the bank’s total assets (bank-only). Meanwhile, Maybank’s total assets as of December 2025 reached Rp 193.72 trillion.

Maybank has collaborated with the Muslim Pro app to launch the Amanah Pro digital finance platform. This platform aims to assist the public in preparing for Hajj and Umrah pilgrimages.

CEO of Muslim Pro, Nafees Khundker, said Indonesia was selected as the first country to access Amanah Pro. “We feel that Indonesia is the market where we can add the most value; our users are most numerous here, and this is a market where we can help support Muslims in their development,” he stated at the Amanah Pro launch event in Jakarta on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

Romy added that through Amanah Pro, users can open MyArafah savings accounts for Hajj and Umrah preparations online without needing to visit a branch. He said the MyArafah savings offer competitive exchange rates for customers withdrawing cash in Saudi Arabia or other countries.

Additionally, customers opening accounts via Amanah Pro will receive free Sharia insurance protection worth up to Rp 2 billion. “So if the account holder passes away, there will be life insurance coverage. The life insurance is paid based on the previous month’s balance multiplied by 20,” said Romy.

Romy hopes the presence of Amanah Pro can support the growth of the Sharia economy in Indonesia. Nevertheless, he noted that Sharia banking assets in Indonesia still hover around 7%. “We hope Maybank can become one of the channels in building the Sharia economy in Indonesia,” he said.
