Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (BNII) has spoken out regarding allegations of a default on a mutual fund product that have gone viral on social media.

Maybank Indonesia spokesperson Bayu Irawan stated that every investment product has different characteristics and risk levels, which are explained through the prospectus, fund fact sheet, as well as documents and briefing processes provided to customers in accordance with prevailing regulations before an investment decision is made.

“As a Mutual Fund Securities Selling Agent (APERD), PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk (Maybank Indonesia) consistently carries out its role in accordance with regulatory provisions and is committed to assisting customers in obtaining information regarding the development of their investments,” Bayu told CNBC Indonesia.

To that end, the bank has undertaken various efforts. These include proactively monitoring developments in the handling of the case and coordinating intensively with the Investment Manager to ensure all necessary steps in the settlement of obligations continue to be carried out.

“Communicating continuously with the Investment Manager to obtain the latest developments, and ensuring that every piece of information conveyed by the Investment Manager is passed on to unit holders transparently through various channels, including letters, email, verbal communication, and face-to-face meetings,” Bayu said.

Furthermore, Maybank Indonesia has provided various communication channels for unit holders who wish to obtain further information or submit questions or complaints, including via email, telephone, and in-person meetings.

Previously, an investor on the social media platform Threads posted their frustration after a capital-protected mutual fund product from Maybank Indonesia could not be redeemed. According to their account in the post, the capital-protected product purchased at Maybank’s Pemuda branch office could not be withdrawn.

The investor claimed the protected product could not be redeemed due to an investment error on the part of Maybank.

“Someone from Maybank’s Pemuda branch sold a ‘Capital-Protected Mutual Fund’ product. It has now been seven years and the funds cannot be withdrawn on the grounds that the company invested in has gone bankrupt. There is still no certainty as to when the money will be returned, and they just keep saying ‘we are monitoring it, sir’. How will Maybank take responsibility???” the investor’s account posted on Threads, quoted on Tuesday (21/7/2026).
