PT Bank Maybank Indonesia Tbk and PT Bank Sinar Mas Tbk have agreed to form a strategic partnership to realise Sharia Restricted Investment Account (SRIA) transactions.

SRIA is a shariah-compliant investment account with certain restrictions where customers (shahibul maal/investors) place their funds in a shariah bank to be managed according to specific shariah contracts, with the condition that customers provide special instructions/restrictions regarding the use of those funds.

In SRIA transactions, there are restrictions according to the investor’s needs, for example, to be channelled into certain sectors. The bank acts as a representative (investment agent) that channels funds according to the investor’s instructions.

To expand the implementation of SRIA in Indonesia, Maybank Indonesia will continue to strengthen initiatives and cross-institutional collaborations. The SRIA initiative not only reflects Maybank Indonesia’s commitment to providing relevant shariah financial solutions.

But it also strengthens its role as a driver of innovation in deepening the shariah financial market in Indonesia, and is part of the implementation of the “Shariah First” strategy, namely as a provider of shariah products and services in all business segments.

“This is the first SRIA transaction successfully realised with an investor from a conventional bank. This achievement is one of the proofs of the superiority and uniqueness of the SRIA product that can provide opportunities for investors from various backgrounds to participate in shariah transactions,” said Director of the Shariah Business Unit of Maybank Indonesia, Romy H Buchari, on Friday, 24 April 2026.

He also explained that the success of the transaction reflects the strong synergy between Maybank Indonesia and Bank Sinar Mas in presenting shariah-based treasury solutions that not only comply with shariah principles but are also operationally feasible and in accordance with the applicable regulatory framework.

According to the Director of Lending and Wholesale Banking of Bank Sinar Mas, Ekajaya Ongny Putra, this partnership is a strategic step to strengthen investment and financing portfolio diversification, build a more adaptive business model, and support the sustainable growth of the Islamic financial industry in Indonesia.

“We are confident that this synergy will open up broader collaboration spaces in presenting healthy, transparent, and sustainability-oriented investments,” he said.
