May Day Riot Plan in Jakarta: Police Investigate Funding Sources
Police will investigate the funding sources behind the plan for riots during the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration in front of the DPR building. This relates to the seizure of Rp10,961,100 in cash from one person suspected to be a coordinator in the planned riot action. “This is an amount of money that we successfully secured from the hands of one of the field coordinators, based on information from the individual to us that the money was to be used or given to those attending together with his group,” said Director of Reskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference on Friday (1/5). Iman stated that his side is still investigating the funding sources for the planned riot during the May Day commemoration, including who the intellectual actors behind the riot plan are. “Regarding the intellectual figures, we will not stop here in our investigation, as you all know and we have already stated, there is a significant amount of money circulating among them,” he said. “We will conduct an investigation into the source of the funding,” he added. Previously, Polda Metro Jaya secured 101 people suspected of planning riots during the International Labour Day or May Day commemoration in front of the DPR building on Friday (1/5). “Currently, 101 people are providing information to us,” said Director of Reskrimum Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference on Friday. Iman explained that the hundreds of secured individuals have ages ranging from 20-35 years and most of them are from outside Jakarta. Iman also revealed that the hundreds of people were secured around the DPR building area. Iman stated that the hundreds of people will be immediately returned home after completing their statements to the investigators. “After they finish providing the information, they will immediately return to their respective homes. We repeat, after they finish providing the information to us regarding the important matters we need, insyaallah they will immediately return to their respective homes,” he said.
