Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto immediately approached and chatted with workers after delivering a speech at the International Labour Day (May Day) commemoration at Monas, Jakarta, on Friday. Not only that, President Prabowo promptly removed his jacket and gave the oversized garment to a worker. Prabowo appeared relaxed in a black T-shirt and joined the workers directly. He shook hands and hugged several of them before entering his official vehicle and leaving the event venue. Earlier, at the start of his speech, Prabowo stated that workers, farmers, fishermen, and labourers are the most important part of his journey as President. According to the President, these workers are part of Indonesian society that must be defended. Prabowo emphasised that he will always defend the interests of the people. “I swear to fight for the interests of the people, especially those whose lives are still difficult,” said Prabowo, greeted with cheers and applause from the attending workers. Amid his struggles, Prabowo recounted that there are always challenges. However, he stressed that everything will be done for the people’s interests. Prabowo also affirmed that he cannot bear the thought of any Indonesian child going hungry or a mother unable to provide milk for her children. He further expressed reluctance if Indonesia’s wealth, which should be enjoyed by the people, is plundered by businessmen. “I cannot tolerate officials colluding with greedy businessmen,” he said. Nevertheless, Prabowo believes there are still genuine businessmen who are truly committed to building the nation and improving public welfare.
