May Day: Online Motorcycle Taxi Drivers Respond Positively to President's Cut in Platform Fees

Jakarta (ANTARA) - On International Labour Day or May Day, several online motorcycle taxi (ojol) driver partners responded positively to President Prabowo Subianto’s policy reducing the income deduction taken by platform companies from ojol drivers to eight percent.

In addition, the government requires employers to provide social security for their workers, such as work accident insurance, BPJS Health, and health insurance, considering the high work risks for motorcycle drivers.

An ojol driver partner, Jasmoro, in Jakarta on Friday, said the policy is good but must be implemented and not just mere rhetoric.

“So we really need to be looked after going forward, for the drivers too. Because right now, drivers are really suffering. The deductions are huge and unclear,” said Jasmoro.

Regarding health services for workers, he mentioned one government programme that he has benefited from, namely Free Health Check (CKG). With that programme, he does not need to spend money to know his health status.

In agreement, ojol driver partner Aditya Muhammad said the policy is good for workers.

He has also experienced CKG and hopes the programme will improve further in the future.

President Prabowo Subianto has signed Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 27 of 2026 to reduce the income deduction taken by platform companies from ojol drivers to eight percent.

“I say here, I do not agree with 10 percent, it must be below 10 percent,” said President Prabowo in his speech at the International Labour Day commemoration at the National Monument, Jakarta, on Friday.
