May Day: Government reaffirms commitment to improve workers' health
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government, on the occasion of International Labour Day (May Day) 2026, has once again affirmed its commitment to ensuring the physical and mental health of workers, including through the expansion of Free Health Checks and training in First Aid for Psychological Wounds (P3LP).
Head of Communication and Public Information Bureau of the Ministry of Health Aji Muhawarman in Jakarta on Friday stated that there are several health challenges among workers, such as the need to improve healthy living behaviours.
“These healthy living behaviours include nutritious healthy food, physical activity, clean and sustainable environment, no smoking, immunisation, mental health, and regular health checks,” he said.
In addition, Aji highlighted the high rates of non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and communicable diseases like tuberculosis, as well as the low reporting of occupational diseases.
Therefore, his side is striving to expand the Free Health Check (CKG) to workers, through cooperation between company clinics, community health centres, and health offices. CKG can be implemented jointly according to the capabilities of the local government.
“The implementation of CKG is to carry out early detection so that body conditions can be known if there are health problems and treated immediately, so that it does not become more severe or serious,” he said.
Previously, President Prabowo Subianto announced a series of new labour-related policies and instructions while attending International Labour Day (May Day) 2026 at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta, as a form of support for workers, on Friday.
First, Prabowo has signed Presidential Regulation Number 25 of 2026 on the Ratification of International Labour Organization Convention Number 188, which covers protection and welfare for fishery vessel crew.
