Slamet claims he brought around 300 pieces of bread to sell in the Monas area. Unexpectedly, all his goods were sold out in just two hours.

“These 300 pieces are already sold out. From 8 a.m. earlier, it’s been about two hours until 10 a.m.,” said Slamet when met at Monas, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).

According to Slamet, crowded moments like May Day are indeed opportunities for traders to reap profits. He usually sells in busy locations on weekends or during major events.

“If there’s no event, I sell at markets, bus stops, or stations. But if there’s an event like this, I definitely come here, it’s crowded,” he said.

He mentioned that the presence of thousands of workers filling Monas made traders’ goods sell quickly. He even assessed that moments like this are very helpful for the economy of small traders.

“Wow, it’s very blessed for traders. Especially those who rarely come here, they all come (the traders). It’s indeed very beneficial,” he stated.

The bread sold by Slamet is homemade. He is assisted by his nephew who produces the bread with banana filling, honey spread, and cheese sprinkle.

“Homemade, my nephew makes it at home. The filling is banana, the outside is spread with honey, sprinkled with cheese, then baked,” he explained.

Although raw material prices have increased, Slamet still maintains the selling price of Rp 5,000 for three pieces. He copes by reducing the size to keep it affordable for buyers.

“The materials have risen by about 30 percent. So the size is made a bit smaller. If the price is lowered, it’s hard to give change, so it remains Rp 5,000 for three,” he said.

In a day, Slamet can earn a net profit of up to Rp 300,000. He usually starts selling from midnight, targeting markets to stations before finally selling in crowded locations.

“If in a day it can reach Rp 300,000 net. I start from 12 midnight, go around first, then in the morning to the station,” he said.
