May Day Action: Student Masses Converge on the DPR

They initially wore their yellow and blue university jackets but later removed them and donned black T-shirts. “Long live the students!” shouted the students. “Long live the workers,” they continued. Meanwhile, the road towards Slipi leading to the DPR building was diverted towards GBK. Worker masses were still gathered in front of the DPR building. Dasco Absorbs Workers’ Aspirations Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad received representatives from the worker masses during the International Labour Day or May Day 2026 celebrations. Dasco stated that the government and DPR are targeting the completion of the Manpower Law by the end of the year at the latest. “Earlier, the government and DPR have agreed that at the latest by the end of this year we will implement the Constitutional Court’s decision to form a new Labour Law,” said Dasco at the DPR building in Jakarta on Friday (1/5). Nevertheless, Dasco said the speed of the discussion depends on the workers. This is because the initial discussion of the material was handed over to the workers. “We leave it to the worker friends to handle it. So, we wait, but in principle, the government has also requested that by the end of this year the Labour Law must be completed,” he explained. “Actually, whether it’s slow or fast with this law actually depends on the worker comrades,” he added. Dasco also responded to the workers’ complaints regarding the outsourcing system. The government, he said, already has a task force for mitigating layoffs and worker welfare. “So, regarding wage issues, the outsourcing system, and issues related to layoffs and so on, they can be brought there to break the long chain,” he stated.
