May Day 2026: KSPSI Proposes LPDP Scholarships for Labour Activists
The Chairman of the May Day 2026 Committee explained that the purpose of this proposal is to improve the competence and quality of leadership among future labour activists. Andi Gani assessed that labour organisation leaders need robust academic capacity.
“I proposed LPDP scholarships for labour activists earlier to enhance the competence of labour leaders for the future of the organisation,” said Andi Gani to reporters in the Monas area, Central Jakarta, on Friday (1/5/2026).
Andi Gani revealed that Prabowo responded positively to the proposal. He was asked to meet to discuss the technical aspects and scheme of scholarships for those labour union activists.
“The response (from Prabowo) was very positive; I will be asked to meet the President very soon to report on the situation,” he stated.
Although it is a special pathway for activists, Andi Gani emphasised that prospective scholarship recipients must still follow the applicable procedures and selection processes at LPDP. He hopes that this opportunity will be used responsibly.
“Of course, they will still take the normal tests. I will encourage friends who will take the scholarships to be serious because they are fully funded by the state and must be accountable for the state funds,” Andi Gani stressed.
In addition to the scholarship issue, he also appreciated Prabowo for fulfilling his promises to workers, from tightening outsourcing regulations to protecting domestic workers.
“The President has kept his promises. The PHK Task Force, tightened outsourcing rules, to ART protection. This is extraordinary,” he added.
On the other hand, Andi Gani stated that the May Day 2026 celebration went well. He described the celebration with Prabowo today as a historic moment for the national labour movement.
“As the Chairman of the May Day 2026 Committee, I am very happy. Around 240,000 workers are present here with Father President Prabowo Subianto. This is an extraordinary day for Indonesian workers,” said Andi Gani.
According to him, this marks the strength of unity in the national labour movement, even as a small portion of labour elements still conveyed their aspirations through demonstrations in the DPR/MPR RI building area.
“We respect friends who are protesting at the DPR. That is normal in democracy. However, the majority of labour forces are present at Monas and conveying aspirations directly to the President,” he explained.
Andi Gani assured that communication between labour unions and the Government is well-established. “This is the history of unity and solidarity of Indonesian workers. Hopefully, this spirit is maintained until May Day 2027,” he concluded.
