The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) considers the commemoration of Labour Day or May Day as a strategic moment to strengthen harmonious and productive industrial relations between workers and employers, while also promoting national economic growth and job creation.

“We view workers as strategic partners. Company progress cannot be achieved without the contributions of superior, productive, and adaptive human resources,” said Kadin Indonesia Chairman Anindya Novyan Bakrie in a written statement on Friday (1/5/2026).

He stated that workers are an integral part of human resources (HR) that serve as a key element in company growth, especially in an increasingly digitalised economy.

Therefore, workers are no longer seen merely as a factor of production, but as primary partners in creating added value.

Furthermore, Kadin expressed support for various government policies outlined by President Prabowo in his 2026 May Day speech, including minimum wage increases, strengthened social protections, and job creation through investment and industrial downstreaming.

Anindya assessed several programmes such as wage subsidies, tax incentives, worker housing development, and expansion of employment social security as concrete steps in sustainably improving worker welfare.

On the other hand, Kadin also urged the business world to continue expanding job creation, particularly for the younger generation and new job seekers, through increased productivity, skills development, and technology adoption.

“Worker welfare and business sustainability are two inseparable sides. When companies grow, workers will prosper. When workers are productive, companies will become stronger,” he said.

In addition, Anindya also emphasised the importance of maintaining a conducive business climate amid global uncertainties to ensure investment continues to grow and employment absorption increases.
