May Day 2026 Commemoration: Indonesian Police Chief's Message to Workers

Jakarta – The Chief of the Indonesian National Police (Kapolri), General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, conveyed his appreciation to workers marking International Labour Day 2026, which falls on Friday, 1 May 2026. “On this International Labour Day commemoration, I extend my appreciation to all Indonesian workers who have been the driving force behind industrial and economic advancement,” said Sigit in an official statement on Instagram @listyosigitprabowo, quoted on Friday, 1 May 2026. Furthermore, Sigit explained that in line with the theme ‘Collaboration Together to Realise Industrial Progress and Workers’ Welfare’, the National Police (Polri) is committed to supporting synergy between workers and the government. “In line with the theme ‘Collaboration Together to Realise Industrial Progress and Workers’ Welfare’, Polri is committed to maintaining secure public order and supporting synergy between workers, entrepreneurs, and the government for mutual welfare,” Sigit stated. In commemorating Labour Day 2026, Sigit hopes that workers in Indonesia will become increasingly prosperous and protected. “Happy International Labour Day. May Indonesian workers become increasingly prosperous and protected,” he clarified. It is known that tens of thousands of combined forces are ready to secure the International May Day action 2026, which will be held at the National Monument (Monas) in Central Jakarta on Friday, 1 May 2026. The Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Police Commissioner Budi Hermanto, revealed that 24,980 personnel will be involved in this security deployment. “Metro Jaya Regional Police, together with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), regional government, security guards, and related parties, have prepared 24,980 personnel. This consists of 15,575 Polri personnel, 6,003 TNI personnel, 1,002 personnel from the DKI Provincial Government, 400 security guard personnel, and 2,000 Community Security Belts. This is focused on ensuring that the 2026 May Day activities run safely, orderly, smoothly, humanely, and conducive,” said Budi. Furthermore, Budi explained that the May Day Fiesta action will take place at Monas, but there will also be public aspiration expressions to be held at the DPR/MPR and the DKI Provincial Manpower Office. “We urge all members of the public who do not have particular interests in the aforementioned areas to avoid those locations. Considering there will be high crowd intensity and density, traffic flow related to diversions and others will be functional and situational,” he stated.
