president Abdurrahman Wahid, occupied the

offices of the Surabaya-based Jawa Pos

newspaper. The occupation forced the paper to halt production for a day

July 7, 2000 a mob, claiming to consist of students and

lecturers from a university in the West Sumatra

capital of Padang, destroyed the offices of local tabloid Bijak.
