Persija Jakarta has officially ended its cooperation with head coach Mauricio Souza at the conclusion of the 2025/2026 Super League season. The decision was made by Macan Kemayoran’s management after the Brazilian tactician was deemed unable to meet the targets agreed upon at the start of his contract.
Persija director Mohamad Prapanca stated that despite Souza bringing strong character to the team, failure to achieve performance targets was the primary reason for the split. Not only Souza, but the entire coaching staff—comprising Italo Bartole Resende, Vitor Branco da Cruz, Gerson Rodrigues Rios, Caio Araujo, and Claudio Luzardi—also left the capital city club.

At Persija Jakarta, Souza led the team in 33 matches with an average points per match (PPM) of 2.06. Although this statistic is relatively high, management decided not to extend his contract due to unmet specific club targets.
