Over 500 death benefit claims for Mataram residents have remained unpaid since October 2025 due to administrative issues identified during a review by the North Lombok Province (NTB) government. Mataram City Social Affairs Department (Dinsos) head Muzakkir Walad said the department has not disbursed the funds as the administrative problems with bank account codes remain unresolved.

He explained that previously, the death benefit budget was part of the planned social assistance (bansos) line and operated smoothly. However, during the latest budget revision, the NTB provincial government evaluated this line. “Social assistance regulations clearly require inclusion in the first decile, but other requirements do not align with the nature of death benefits, which have been running for several years,” he said.

An initial proposal to transfer funds via Unforeseen Expenditure (BTT) was deemed inappropriate, as BTT is reserved for disaster emergencies. “BTT can only be used for disaster-related situations, and this is not a disaster. A declaration from the Mayor confirming an emergency would be needed to release it,” Walad clarified.

Dinsos Mataram is now seeking a joint review with the NTB provincial government to find a solution, ensuring the annual death benefit programme does not remain suspended. “We need the province’s input on the best path forward. Don’t leave it hanging—this is an annual policy programme,” he added.
