Mataram to Evict Non-Teachers from Misused Official Residences

The Mataram City Government is preparing to take firm action against the misuse of official teacher housing, following reports that some units are occupied by individuals who are not educators and allegations of illegal property sales. The city’s Education Department (Disdik) will immediately conduct a field inspection to verify the condition and occupancy status of the 163 units spread across the city.

Head of the Mataram Education Department, Yusuf, stated that the housing is strictly intended for active civil servant teachers who do not yet own a private home. He confirmed that retired teachers and non-civil servants found occupying the properties will be ordered to vacate. ‘We will check the condition of the housing. If we find violations, we will ask them to leave. Retirees and non-civil servants must be evicted,’ Yusuf said on Tuesday.

The enforcement effort will be coordinated with the Regional Finance Agency (BKD) and the Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP). Once the data collection is complete, the city government plans to conduct an asset appraisal to determine the future use of the properties, which could include renovation or commercial rental to generate local revenue. ‘No land should be left idle. After the appraisal, we will decide whether to rent them out so they contribute to the Regional Original Income (PAD),’ Yusuf added.

The crackdown follows scrutiny from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which highlighted that many official residences in Mataram were not being used for their intended purpose. The KPK urged the city government to be more assertive, suggesting that capable individuals should not be allowed to occupy the houses and calling for immediate data collection and certification of the assets to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure transparency.
