Mataram Satpol PP Tightens Night Patrols After Udayana Slashing Incident
The Mataram City Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) has tightened night patrols at several points, particularly around the Taman Udayana area, following a machete attack that went viral on social media several days ago. The move is aimed at maintaining security and reassuring the public.
Head of Mataram Satpol PP Irwan Rahadi said personnel had been deployed to patrol various locations following the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday (12 July).
“We have coordinated with the police and the military to carry out activities to ensure the comfort and calm of the community,” Irwan said when contacted on Wednesday (15 July 2026).
Irwan assured that security measures would not be relaxed following the incident. The existing patrol scheme has instead been strengthened, running from morning until night. Security operations are divided into two categories: routine activities and incidental activities.
“What has already been running, we are thickening, from morning to night. At night, there are routine and incidental activities. Incidental activities include, among other things, cases or reports from the public,” he explained.
In addition to strengthening patrols, Satpol PP has urged residents not to worry excessively when going about their activities at night. Residents are advised not to wander alone or loiter without a clear purpose during vulnerable hours.
“I urge the public not to loiter at night or to be alone during vulnerable hours. It is hoped that they will have a friend accompanying them,” he appealed.
“But there is no need to worry excessively, because we have installed several CCTV cameras there to monitor activities with the potential for disturbances,” he added.
Earlier, a video showing a number of youths armed with sharp weapons slashing a resident at Taman Udayana went viral on social media. The 18-second footage shows several young men running and then attacking a passer-by standing on the pavement.
“Where does it hurt?” one man asks the victim in the video.
“What did I do wrong, sir (to be slashed like this)?” the victim says with a trembling voice in the footage.
According to the CCTV recording circulated on social media, the attack took place on Sunday (12 July 2026) at around 00:35 Central Indonesia Time. The victim sustained serious injuries to his back and hands.
“Now I’m afraid to go out at night, especially passing through Udayana,” said Aulia, a Mataram resident, speaking to detikBali.
Aulia hopes the police and Mataram City Satpol PP will quickly arrest the perpetrators.
“I hope the perpetrators are caught soon. Honestly, I’m really scared,” she said.
Echoing Aulia’s concerns, Novi, a resident of Sweta, Mataram, said she was anxious because she often exercises at Taman Udayana at weekends.
“I usually exercise at Taman Udayana, but now I feel uneasy. I hope the authorities can act quickly, before there are more casualties,” she said.
