Residents of Jempong Timur, Jempong Baru subdistrict, Sekarbela, Mataram City, were shocked by the discovery of a baby girl’s body in a river in the Jempong Timur area. The infant is believed to have been born only hours before being discarded.

The head of Jempong Baru subdistrict, Fika Wulanhartati, explained that the case first came to light when a resident of Jempong Timur happened to spot the baby’s body in the river flow.

“The one who found it was a local resident. According to the medical team, the umbilical cord was still attached. It appeared to have been cut with a cutter or knife, and there were still traces of blood that had yet to dry,” she said when contacted on Monday (7/9/2026).

Fika said the case had been taken up by Ampenan sector police for investigation and identification of the dumping of the baby girl’s body.

“We are awaiting the identification and examination results from the police. We urge residents to remain calm and keep the situation conducive,” she said.

Based on a 23-second video, the body of the baby girl was found by a resident of Jempong Timur, Jempong Baru, Sekarbela, Mataram, on Sunday (6/9/2026) evening. The baby’s body was found without any clothing or cloth wrapping, with the umbilical cord still attached to her body.

“Oh God, oh my. It has already passed away,” said the man in the 23-second video.
