Mataram Prepares SME and Industry Training to Boost Competitiveness
The Industry, Cooperatives and SME Office of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara Province, has prepared a number of training programmes for small and medium enterprise (SME) and small and medium industry (SMI) operators to improve product quality, competitiveness and business capacity.
Head of the Mataram City Industry, Cooperatives and SME Office (Disprinkop UKM) Jemmy Nelwan said in Mataram on Thursday that the training budget for MSMEs and industry would be implemented using funds from the 2026 tobacco excise revenue-sharing fund (DBHCHT), with a total budget of around Rp2 billion.
“Therefore, for the 2026 quota, we have prepared a dozen SME and industry training programmes to be carried out until the end of this year,” he said.
According to him, several types of training are being prepared and will be implemented over the next four months. For the SME sector, the planned training programmes include sewing bags from patchwork fabric, embroidery, shoemaking, barista skills, pastry making, and the preparation of traditional gift hampers.
For the industrial sector, Disprinkop will hold training in cukly woodcraft as one of Mataram City’s flagship products, as well as silverwork, particularly for communities in the Cemare and Jangkuk areas.
Further training will cover the processing of various Nusantara sambal varieties, tempeh production, textiles, and welding.
“For welding training in particular, we will cooperate with the Manpower Office (Disnaker) to channel ready-to-work labour,” he said.
He explained that participants would be drawn from representatives of six sub-districts across Mataram City, with a total of around 25 to 35 participants per training session.
In addition to receiving knowledge and supporting facilities such as allowances and meals, he said, training participants would also receive work equipment assistance according to the type of training they attended.
“The equipment assistance is provided to enable participants to immediately start their own businesses independently after the training period ends,” he said.
In addition to regular programmes, he continued, Disperinkop also accommodates various programmes sourced from the principal ideas (Pokir) of Mataram City DPRD members to meet the needs of communities in their respective electoral districts.
“Besides the training budget sourced from DBHCHT, there is also funding from the Mataram City DPRD Pokir. For participants, we focus on their respective electoral districts,” he said.
Jemmy further said that after receiving training and equipment assistance, Disprinkop would continue to monitor the progress of participants to ensure that the knowledge and equipment provided were truly being utilised.
“We have also prepared a consultation team so that they can communicate regarding obstacles during the running of their businesses. We will provide mentoring until they become self-reliant,” he said.
