Mataram Military Command Headquarters to Be Built in Sleman’s Godean District
The headquarters of Military Regional Command (Kodam) XXVI/Mataram is planned to be built in Godean, Sleman. The announcement was made by the commander of Kodam XXVI/Mataram, Major General TNI Drajad Brima Yoga, after he met Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X.
“Yes, the meeting discussed the construction of the Kodam. This will also be discussed at central government level; the important thing is that permission has been granted. We will move on to the next stage and discuss it with the centre as well,” Brima said after the meeting at the Kepatihan Complex in Yogyakarta on Tuesday (27 October 2026).
Brima said he did not yet know exactly when construction of the Kodam XXVI/Mataram headquarters would begin on the nine-hectare site belonging to the village administration. He said all permit-related matters had been cleared.
“That is the plan—to build it in Godean, on around nine hectares. We hope to proceed as soon as possible. Once all the processes are clear, we will report to the Minister of Defence as soon as possible,” he said.
“We will certainly coordinate with the village authorities about the construction. That is why we first reported to Ngarsa Dalem [the Sultan]. We will also discuss it with the village and the regional authorities. That is the procedure,” he added.
Brima explained that Kodam XXVI/Mataram would oversee Yogyakarta and several areas of Central Java. The transfer of command and control from Kodam IV/Diponegoro has already taken place.
While the new headquarters is being built and prepared for occupation, Kodam XXVI/Mataram is temporarily operating from the headquarters of Korem 072/Pamungkas.
“Yes, some areas will include Wonogiri and Klaten. The plan is to have ten district military commands (Kodim), and there are currently ten. For now, we are still together; some remain with us, and we are using the Korem offices. We are all gathered there,” Brima said.
“This is planned as the Kodam headquarters. It will have its implementing units and several housing facilities. We will conduct a survey, then draw up plans and so on. Naturally, we will report to Ngarsa Dalem,” he added.
Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X said he had no objection to the plan to build the Kodam XXVI/Mataram headquarters.
“There is no problem, but the administrative process must be followed. There are rules. It is the same as with the construction of the Yogyakarta Regional Police headquarters: the process goes through the regency and the village,” the Sultan said.
Ten Kodim units transferred from Kodam IV/Diponegoro
Ten district military commands (Kodim) previously under Military Regional Command IV/Diponegoro have been transferred to Kodam XXVI/Mataram. The new command, whose territorial area includes Yogyakarta and surrounding areas, was inaugurated on 5 October 2026.
“The separation of the Kodam has been carried out and was also a decision by the leadership. We have handed over ten Kodim units and transferred them to Kodam Mataram,” Kodam IV/Diponegoro commander Major General Sudaryanto told reporters after a unit handover ceremony at the Kodam IV/Diponegoro headquarters in Banyumanik, Semarang, on Monday (19 October 2026).
Sudaryanto said the reorganisation would enable the command to focus more closely on managing its territory. The division was also being made for security purposes.
Former Kodam IV/Diponegoro commander Major General Achiruddin said five of the transferred Kodim units were in Yogyakarta and five in Central Java.
“Five from Yogyakarta and another five from Central Java,” Achiruddin said.
The ten Kodim units joining Kodam XXVI/Mataram are:
Kodim 0706/Temanggung
Kodim 0707/Wonosobo
Kodim 0708/Purworejo
Kodim 0729/Bantul
Kodim 0730/Gunungkidul
Kodim 0731/Kulonprogo
Kodim 0732/Sleman
Kodim 0734/Yogyakarta
Kodim 0723/Klaten
Kodim 0728/Wonogiri
President Prabowo Subianto previously inaugurated 204 new TNI units at a ceremony marking the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian National Armed Forces. Among them was Kodam XXVI/Mataram, whose territorial area includes Yogyakarta and surrounding areas.
The inauguration was held at the Prima Field of TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Monday (5 October). With the addition of the new units, the Indonesian Army now has 27 Kodam across the country. Prabowo has set a target for every province to have a Kodam.
