Mataram Education Agency Warns Schools Against 'Official Name-Dropping' in Student Admissions

The Mataram City Education Agency (Disdik) has reminded headteachers in the region to reject ‘entrusted’ students during the 2026 New Student Admission System (SPMB) process. Headteachers have been asked not to believe in the misappropriation of certain officials’ names. ‘We urge headteachers in Mataram not to believe (the name-dropping of officials),’ said the Head of the Mataram City Education Agency, Yusuf, on Tuesday (30/6/2026). It is known that the trend of misusing officials’ names is often exploited by certain individuals for personal gain when approaching schools. Yusuf asked headteachers to increase their vigilance and not be afraid of intimidation from these individuals. ‘Do not believe it if someone drops the name of an official,’ Yusuf stressed. Previously, the issue of ‘entrusted’ students in the SPMB in Mataram City had once again come under scrutiny. Not a few parents of prospective students have been invoking the names of regional officials to get their children accepted into favoured schools. Mataram Mayor Mohan Roliskana asserted that the practice of misusing officials’ names is unnecessary. He reminded that new student registration can be carried out by choosing the achievement, domicile, affirmation, or transfer pathways. ‘There is a recruitment process, there is an achievement level process, there is domicile, affirmation (and transfer). Those can be utilised,’ said Mohan on Monday (29/6).
