Mataram Civil Servants to Work Four Days, Official Vehicles Also Restricted
The Mataram City Government (Pemkot) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) will implement a four-day workweek following the central government’s policy of working from home (WFH). The central government previously set a policy of working from home for one day per week for civil servants (ASN). This policy will be applied every Friday, both in central and regional agencies. “If such a policy is issued, the regional government will implement it. We will carry it out in accordance with the directives or policies from the central government. We will socialise this immediately, and we will also prepare the next plans,” said Mataram Mayor Mohan Roliskana when confirmed at his office on Wednesday (1/4/2026). Although the one-day-per-week WFH policy will soon be implemented, Mohan assured that public services will continue normally. “It remains (normal). Services will remain. Must be active,” Mohan emphasised. On the other hand, Pemkot Mataram is also reviewing the obligation to use bicycles or cycle to the office for employees. This policy is said to be part of efforts to save fuel oil (BBM) amid the global crisis. “For our employees whose distance from home to office is quite far, we will find alternatives,” Mohan explained. Previously reported, the central government will implement a WFH policy for one day per week for ASN. This policy applies every Friday in both central and regional agencies. “The implementation of work from home for ASN in central and regional agencies is done for one working day per week, namely Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto in a virtual press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026), as quoted by detikNews. Airlangga said the policy has been calculated based on post-COVID-19 handling experience. This policy aims to encourage a digital-based work system while increasing efficiency. “Why Friday? Because some ministries have done that, working four days in a week with applications, this is post-COVID,” said Airlangga. He also mentioned that the workload on Fridays is not as heavy as other days, but emphasised that public services will continue. “We chose Friday because it’s half, meaning not full from Monday to Thursday. But public services will still run,” Airlangga stated. Several efficiency policies implemented by the government following the impact of the war in the Middle East will take effect from 1 April. The government is also limiting the use of official vehicles for ASN to 50 percent and encouraging the use of public transport. “Mobility efficiency includes limiting official vehicles to 50 percent except for operational and electric vehicles. Encouraging the use of public transport. So reducing official vehicles and using public transport as much as possible,” said Airlangga.
