Mataram City Government to Centre Lebaran Topat Celebrations at Loang Baloq and Bintaro
The Mataram City Government will centralise the Lebaran Topat celebration at two locations: Loang Baloq Park in Sekarbela District and Bintaro Cemetery in Ampenan District. The celebration will take place on the seventh day of Syawal, one week after Eid al-Fitr.
“The event will be held at Loang Baloq in Sekarbela District and at Bintaro Cemetery in Ampenan District,” said Cahya Samudra, Head of the Mataram Tourism Office, on Tuesday 10 March 2026.
Cahya explained that all community tourism awareness groups (pokdarwis) along Mataram’s coastline will be mobilised for cleaning efforts. This is because during every Lebaran Topat celebration, Mataram residents and surrounding communities flock to the beach.
“We have already advised all the pokdarwis located along the coast—not only those at Loang Baloq and Bintaro, but across all beaches, ranging from Gading Beach, Sunset Land, to Ampenan,” said Cahya.
Lalu Martawang, Assistant I to the Mataram City Regional Secretariat, appealed to residents celebrating Lebaran Topat to refrain from using open-bed vehicles. This appeal is made purely to ensure safety, health, and traffic order.
“City government teams will remain on standby to conduct monitoring and supervision at all gathering points where residents will celebrate Lebaran Topat,” said Martawang.
As background, the Lebaran Topat celebration will be opened with traditional Sasak songs and distinctive Lombok dances, as well as prayers in praise of the Prophet. The peak of the Lebaran Topat celebration is commonly called “Ketupat Agung” or the tradition of competing for a giant rice cake.
All residents attending the celebration will compete to obtain rice cakes of various sizes, ranging from small cakes to oversized cakes. The rice cakes won by residents during the Lebaran Topat celebration will be eaten communally in a tradition known as “begibung”. The rice cakes will be consumed by residents alongside Lombok specialities, including chicken curry, egg curry, spiced chicken, grilled meat skewers, and mixed vegetable salad.
