The Mataram City Government has successfully saved on the budget for fuel (BBM) for official vehicles amounting to Rp 3 billion until December 2026. These savings were obtained after the Mataram City Government implemented fuel efficiency of up to 50 per cent as an energy-saving measure.

“We have calculated the fuel efficiency; this is efficiency for four-wheeled vehicles used by officials. After calculating the efficiency until December for fuel, we can save around Rp 3 billion. So, if we consider the monthly efficiency, it’s about Rp 260 million per month,” said the Secretary of the Mataram City Regional Secretariat, Lalu Alwan Basri, when confirmed on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

Alwan explained that the fuel efficiency applies to official vehicles for echelon II to echelon IV officials. Four-wheeled vehicles are used by department heads and secretaries, while two-wheeled vehicles are used by echelon IV officials.

“Four-wheeled vehicles are used by department heads, and two-wheeled vehicles by echelon IV officials. Four-wheeled vehicles are also used by echelon III, such as secretaries,” Alwan clarified.

Regarding the Rp 3 billion fuel savings budget until the end of 2026, Alwan admitted that the reallocation of that budget has not yet been determined.

“Later, there are priority programmes that we must complete in the revised city budget,” he said.

Previously, the Head of the Mataram City Regional Financial and Asset Agency (BKD), Muhamad Ramayoga, stated that fuel efficiency was carried out on a large scale for the use of fuel in official vehicles. However, this step is ensured not to impact public services.

“We have calculated the fuel that we are cutting. We asked friends at BKD to map the reduction in fuel use, at least 50 per cent. This fuel is of a routine nature,” said Ramayoga.

“All OPDs that are service-oriented are not cut. What we cut by 50 per cent is routine expenditure. For example, cars for department heads, secretaries, echelon III,” he continued.

Ramayoga emphasised that operational vehicles for services are maintained, such as the waste transport fleet at the Environmental Agency (DLH), river and ditch services at the Public Works and Public Housing Agency (PUPR), and healthcare service vehicles at community health centres.

“For example, services at the Civil Registry, there are two-wheeled vehicles used to serve the public, those are not cut. If in the sub-districts, the village head’s motorbikes are cut, but three-wheeled (waste transport) and others are not cut. This applies to all OPDs,” he stressed.

Ramayoga revealed that the fuel budget for civil servants (ASN) of the Mataram City Government in 2026 reaches Rp 20 billion. However, after efficiency measures, the potential savings are estimated to reach Rp 3 billion to Rp 5 billion.

“The total is Rp 20 billion. If efficiency is 50 per cent, it should become Rp 10 billion, but because the service sector cannot be cut, the savings are likely around Rp 3 billion to Rp 5 billion,” he concluded.

As previously reported, several Mataram City Government officials have simultaneously started using bicycles to go to the office. This policy is implemented to support fuel use efficiency.
