Mataram City Government Reviews Medical Practice Permit of Doctor Involved in Illegal Abortion
The Mataram One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) is currently reviewing the medical practice permit (SIP) of a doctor, identified by the initials S, who is suspected of involvement in an illegal abortion case at a private hospital in Mataram.
The Head of DPMPTSP Mataram, Novian Rosmana, is awaiting recommendations from several health-related parties regarding the continuation of the revocation of Doctor S’s SIP, including the Mataram Health Office (Dinkes), the Disciplinary Board, and the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes).
“If a decision has been made, whether from the Health Office or the relevant ministry regarding the violation, we will use that as the basis to cancel the SIP,” Novumn said when confirmed on Wednesday (16/09/2026).
Novian explained that the SIP held by the doctor was issued following the issuance of a Registration Certificate (STR) by the Ministry of Health. Consequently, the STR must be processed first before the revocation of Doctor S’s SIP can occur.
If the cancellation of the STR has been processed by the Ministry of Health or the Mataram Health Office, it can serve as a reference for DPMPTSP Mataram to revoke Doctor S’s permit through the Online Single Submission (OSS) system. DPMPTSP Mataram will proceed with the revocation of Doctor S’s SIP if involvement in illegal abortion practices is proven. However, Novian emphasised that in the OSS system, the term used is not ‘revocation of permit’ but rather ‘cancellation of permit’ or ‘permanent revocation of permit’.
It was previously reported that the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) for the NTB region has officially revoked the medical practice permit (SIP) of Doctor S, who is suspected of involvement in an illegal abortion case in Mataram City. The SIP for Doctor S was revoked for the two hospitals where they practised.
This decision was made after the IDI held a comprehensive meeting from 2–9 September 2026. The meeting involved the Mataram Health Office, the NTB Provincial Health Office, IDI NTB, IDI Mataram, the Indonesian Medical Discipline Honor Council, BBPOM, DPMPTSP Mataram, POGI, and IDI West Lombok.
“Regarding the individual, Doctor S, we will temporarily revoke the medical practice permit in Mataram City. Since they practise in two locations, namely RS MM and RS B, we will revoke it in both places,” said the Chairperson of IDI Mataram, Emirald Isfihan, during a press conference at the IDI NTB Regional Office on Wednesday (09/09/2026).
Emirald stated that the administrative process for revoking Doctor S’s practice permit would be conducted at the Mataram City DPMPTSP.
“Today, we will proceed with the DPMPTSP so that, officially by tomorrow, they will no longer be conducting medical practices in Mataram City at these two locations,” he added.
In addition to revoking Doctor S’s SIP, the IDI has also imposed administrative sanctions on RS MM. The hospital has received a second-level written warning or a severe sanction.
“Regarding the healthcare facility, RS MM will be given a sanction in the form of a written warning. This written warning is at the second level. We are not issuing a verbal warning because we consider this an activity that requires more intensive attention, thus we are issuing a written warning,” he explained.
