Mataram City Government Prepares Health Workers to Assist NTT Earthquake Victims

The Mataram City Government is preparing to send health workers to assist victims of the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara. The number of health workers to be deployed is still under discussion.

Mataram Mayor Mohan Roliskana said his administration is currently discussing concrete measures for channelling humanitarian aid to NTT. In addition to sending health workers, the Mataram city government plans to involve students and representatives of the NTT community residing in Mataram.

“As mentioned earlier, the idea is to send health workers; we are still considering the number,” Mohan said when contacted on Monday (17/8/2026).

The fundraising effort will not only target internal bureaucratic circles such as civil servants in Mataram, but also the wider public. The aid is expected to ease the burden on earthquake victims in NTT.

“As we did in Palu, we also carried out emergency response actions,” he explained.

Previously, the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency, Lieutenant General TNI Suharyanto, confirmed that the death toll from the NTT earthquake as of Monday (17/8/2026) had reached 54. Meanwhile, the tally of injured victims is still being updated dynamically.

Suharyanto also instructed regional governments to conduct damage assessments in parallel and in stages. Data collection need not wait for all information to be complete so that repairs can be carried out immediately.

“The assessment of damaged residential homes, whether lightly, moderately or heavily damaged, is our top priority. Damage to public facilities such as the regent’s office is the next priority after residential areas have been addressed,” Suharyanto said.

“Data collection need not wait for all housing data to be completed; as soon as valid data comes in, repairs will be processed immediately so that handling can proceed more quickly,” he added.
