Mataram City Government Considers Option to Dismiss Lazy Employees Amid Budget Efficiency

The Mataram City Government is considering dismissing lazy employees. This option is being reviewed amid budget efficiency measures and personnel spending that reaches 40 percent.

Mataram City Secretary, Lalu Alwan Basri, stated that one cause of the swelling personnel expenditure was the recent recruitment of Government Employees with Work Agreements (PPPK) up to civil servants within the Mataram City Government scope.

“The decision (to dismiss employees) lies with the leadership. We are providing options, colleagues have also given options. The important thing is that we have provided options and considerations to Mr Mayor,” said Alwan on Friday (27/3/2026).

According to Alwan, several regions have already signalled the dismissal of their employees due to budget efficiency policies. He emphasised that the level of employee discipline within the Mataram City Government will continue to be evaluated.

“Several regions have already signalled the dismissal of employees, this is also one of the options. In 2027, we have already mapped out several options and one of them is the reduction of TPP. We will also reduce some expenditures,” said Alwan.

“All civil servants will be reviewed for their discipline levels. Those who are lazy, do not come to work, we will terminate,” he added.
