The Mataram City Government in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), through the Department of Agriculture, has reported the latest findings regarding cases found in cattle slaughtered for Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026, recording 105 cases of liver fluke (fascioliasis) and one case of liver cyst (hepatic cyst).

“This is the latest data collected by the sacrificial animal inspection team during Eid al-Adha and the three days following Eid al-Adha, known as the Days of Tashriq,” said Lalu Hapiludin, Head of the Livestock Division of the Mataram City Department of Agriculture, on Tuesday.

According to him, the total number of animal sacrifices conducted by the community across mosques, Islamic boarding schools, schools, and prayer rooms in the six districts of Mataram in 2026 spanned 225 locations, involving 2,865 animals, consisting of 1,150 cattle and 1,715 goats.

He noted that the discovery of liver fluke and liver cyst cases in cattle was relatively high, triggered by feeding factors. He explained that grass provided in the early morning is often still covered in dew and wet, which can trigger bacterial growth. Additionally, the cleanliness of the livestock pens also plays a significant role.

As a safety measure for the sacrificial meat, officials immediately performed the elimination of the specific organs in cattle contaminated by liver flukes. Regarding liver cysts, he explained that they occur due to fluid sacs resulting from liver infections, usually located near the gallbladder, necessitating the removal of the entire liver organ.

Meanwhile, he added that healthy meat and other organs remain classified as ASUH (Safe, Healthy, Intact, and Halal) and are fit for distribution and public consumption.
