Matahari joins global group

JAKARTA (JP): Local leading retailer PT Matahari Putra Prima said it has joined the International Grocers Alliance (IGA) as part of its efforts to bring its service to international standards.

The company said in a statement that its president Hanifah Komala and IGA's chairman signed a memorandum on Thursday, marking the acceptance of Matahari as a IGA member.

As an IGA member, Matahari must upgrade its cleanliness, sanitation and services to meet the international standards set by IGA.

"IGA membership will put our operations under the world's high-standard quality," Hanifah said, adding that IGA would give Matahari technological support to meet international standards.

According to Matahari, IGA is one of the world's largest supermarket networks, with aggregate worldwide retail sales of more than US$20 billion a year. It has 48 operations in the U.S. and 37 operations in other countries. (03)
