Massive fire engulfs sandal factory in Tangerang, firefighting efforts prove difficult
A major fire broke out at a sandal factory in Tangerang, Banten, with firefighters struggling to bring the blaze under control since it started late on Sunday night. The Tangerang City Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that the fire was first detected at 10:31 p.m. Western Indonesian Time on Sunday, 21 June 2026. In response, authorities mobilised a substantial force of 19 fire engines and 95 personnel to the scene. As of Monday morning, firefighting operations were still ongoing, with crews seen directing water jets at the burning structure. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined and remains under investigation, pending the completion of the extinguishing process. Local residents gathered near the site to watch the emergency response.
