Massive Fire Breaks Out at Putri Cempo Landfill in Solo

A massive fire struck the Putri Cempo Landfill in Mojosongo, Jebres, Solo, Central Java, on Wednesday (2/9) night. The flames spread rapidly across the mountains of waste at the largest landfill in the Soloraya region.

Observations at the scene showed that dozens of fire engines were deployed from Solo City and Karanganyar Regency. Several residents living near the landfill were evacuated due to the impact of smoke being carried by the wind.

The Mayor of Solo, Respati Ardi, stated that one neighbourhood (RT) had to be evacuated as a result of the Putri Cempo landfill fire. Additionally, the Solo City Government has distributed masks to the community surrounding the landfill to minimise health disturbances caused by the fire.
