Massive explosion rocks Sumenep, two houses damaged
A powerful explosion rattled residents of Bantelan Village, Batuputih Sub-district, Sumenep Regency, this morning. The blast was reportedly heard up to about 5 kilometres from the scene.
One resident, Zuhdi, said the explosion occurred around 06:30 local time and immediately caused panic. People who heard the loud bang rushed from their homes to verify the source of the explosion.
As a result of the blast, two houses were damaged. In addition, three residents sustained injuries and have been taken to the nearest puskesmas (community health clinic) for treatment.
‘There are two houses damaged. There were no fatalities, but it seems there are three injured, and they have been taken to the nearest puskesmas for treatment,’ Zuhdi was quoted by detikJatim, Thursday (5/3/2026).
Meanwhile, Acting Head of Public Relations of Sumenep Police, Kompol Widiarti, confirmed the incident. Police are at the scene to conduct checks and further investigations into the cause of the explosion.
‘The Chief of Police has now also rushed to the blast site in Batuputih,’ Widiarti said.
