Massive Explosion Destroys Several Houses in Situbondo

A massive explosion shocked residents of Dusun Mimbo, Sumberanyar Village, Banyuputih District, Situbondo. The blast destroyed a number of houses in the area.

The explosion occurred at approximately 1:00 pm local time. Police officers, assisted by local residents, immediately carried out evacuation efforts.

Police also provided assistance to the victims. Several residents reported that the explosion was extremely loud, audible within a radius of approximately one kilometre, and caused damage to a number of houses surrounding the site of the incident.

“The explosion was incredibly loud — it could be heard from a great distance,” said Nurhadi, a local resident, on Wednesday (18 February 2026).

Police officers immediately conducted a crime scene investigation. As of the latest reports, officers are still securing the area. A number of items of evidence have been collected.
