Sunda strait bridge construction follow experts` theories: Lampung governor
Bandarlampung (ANTARA News) - Lampung Governor Sjachroedin ZP said the plan to build the Sunda Strait Bridge linking Java and Sumatra islands, including its passableness by big ships, had already been calculated theoretically by experts.
"We are pushing the realization of the project so that travel time between Sumatra and Java will be shortened," the governor said here Tuesday.
Thus, he said, the Lampung provincial administration (on the eastern tip of Sumatra) and the Banten provincial administration (on the western tip of Java) as well as the investor will sign a memorandum of agreement (MoA) on October 3, 2007.
The governor said in the early stage the cost of construction of the bridge would be borne by a consortium of Artha Graha Network as the investor.
The network would finance the construction work from the pre- field study to the planning and construction phases.
On the transportation minister`s worry that the bridge would disrupt inter-island transportation, Sjachroedin said his staff in charge of the bridge construction had informed him that the bridge spanning a deep-sea gap would be 70 meters high and 30.4 kilometers long.
The deep-sea gap currently being used by sea transportation is located between Sangiang island and Prajurit island and 3.5 kilometers wide.
The bridge`s main suspension pillars would be located on the two islands. (*)
