Mass uptake of gold instalment financing as Bank Mega Syariah’s lending surges
Public interest in instalment purchases of gold via Shariah-compliant services continues to rise amid the need to preserve long-term asset value. The trend is evident from a significant growth in gold financing in early 2026. PT Bank Mega Syariah (BMS) recorded outstanding gold financing through the Flexi Gold product of more than Rp31 billion through April 2026. The figure jumped more than 1,236 percent since the start of the year. Digital Business & Product Management Division Head Bank Mega Syariah, Benadicto Alvonzo Ferary, said the public is now using financing not only for consumer spending but also for long-term financial planning. ‘Public interest in owning gold through instalment schemes continues to rise in recent months,’ Benadicto said in a statement on Tuesday (19 May 2026). He said gold is still viewed as a relatively safe instrument to preserve asset value. Therefore, instalment schemes are seen as a choice for people who want to own gold gradually without having to pay cash upfront. The trend has also driven growth in consumer financing at Bank Mega Syariah. By April 2026, the total consumer financing of the company reached more than Rp586 billion, or up about 23 percent year on year. That growth also affected the consumer segment’s revenue, which reached Rp5.4 billion in April 2026 or up 12.28 percent from the previous month. Regionally, Jakarta and its surroundings remain the biggest contributor to consumer financing, with a value of Rp202.7 billion. Followed by Area 4 at Rp122.9 billion and Area 3 at Rp98 billion. Overall, total Bank Mega Syariah financing by Q1 2026 reached more than Rp9.26 trillion, up about 7.2 percent from the end of last year. Meanwhile, the company’s pre-tax profit rose about 51 percent to more than Rp79.97 billion.
