Mass fumigation against dengue

JAKARTA (JP): The city health agency will conduct one month of mass fumigation to eliminate dengue fever from 156 subdistricts throughout the city starting next month.

The agency chose those locations because many dengue fever patients have been found in the areas during the last three years.

The fumigation project will involve 38 subdistricts in South Jakarta, 44 subdistricts in Central Jakarta, 37 in West Jakarta, seven in North Jakarta and 30 in East Jakarta.

The agency urged Jakartans to be more alert against the lethal disease by cleaning the nests of the Aedes Aegyptie mosquito out of their houses.

"Shut any water tanks, clean them at least once a week, and bury used goods such as plastic containers, cans and tires," the health agency said in its announcement made available yesterday. (yns)
