Masjid Istiqlal's 2026 Eid al-Adha Sacrificial Meat Distribution Plan
Masjid Istiqlal has prepared a distribution scheme for sacrificial meat during the 2026 Eid al-Adha celebrations on Wednesday, 27 May. Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar stated that priority for the distribution of sacrificial animals will be given to pesantren, orphanages, Islamic higher education institutions, and Masjid Istiqlal-affiliated organisations.
He explained that the sacrificial animals slaughtered at Masjid Istiqlal will not be distributed directly to attendees to avoid crowds and the risk of pushing. “To prevent gatherings and potential trampling incidents,” he said in a statement on Tuesday, 26 May.
According to him, targeting specific institutions for distribution ensures the 2026 Eid al-Adha meat allocation is precise, orderly, and safe. Nasaruddin confirmed at least 59 cattle and seven goats are ready for slaughter at the mosque during Eid al-Adha.
“The sacrificial animals include contributions from the president, vice-president, and various community figures,” said the Grand Imam of Masjid Istiqlal.
Additionally, he noted that Masjid Istiqlal has modern and hygienic slaughter facilities. The slaughter capacity, he added, is substantial enough to handle multiple sites simultaneously. “If 100 to 200 cattle are to be processed in a day, Insha’Allah, it can be managed,” Nasaruddin stated.
He explained that the sacrificial meat process at Masjid Istiqlal has been designed to be environmentally friendly. Nasaruddin said all slaughter procedures are conducted hygienically to prevent pollution around the mosque. “Not a single drop of blood or waste enters the river. Everything is managed with a robust system,” he said.
The theme for Masjid Istiqlal’s 2026 Eid al-Adha is “Sacrificial Spirit: Caring for Nature and Humanity”. He stated this aligns with his ministry’s broader themes of eco-theology and theology of love. Nasaruddin hopes this theme will inspire imams and the Muslim community to strengthen their concern for the environment and humanitarian values through the sacrificial ritual.
