Masela Project to Contribute USD 37.8 Billion in State Revenue, Says Minister Bahlil

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia has stated that the Abadi Masela National Strategic LNG Project is projected to contribute USD 37.8 billion in direct state revenue. Speaking at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony in Tanimbar, Maluku, on Thursday, he added that indirect tax contributions are estimated to reach approximately USD 6.43 billion. Bahlil noted that the project’s impact will also be felt through large-scale job creation, absorbing around 12,000 direct workers during the construction phase. Once operational, the Abadi field will employ approximately 800 to 1,000 workers. The gas field, which has potential reserves of 18.54 trillion cubic feet (TCF), is a National Strategic Project with an investment value of around USD 20.9 billion, equivalent to Rp352 trillion. Given the scale of investment, workforce absorption, and downstream industry development, the government hopes the Abadi Masela LNG Project will become a catalyst for new economic growth in eastern Indonesia. The project is designed with a production capacity of 9.5 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas per year. Additionally, the Abadi field will supply approximately 150 million cubic feet of gas per day for domestic industrial needs and produce around 35,000 barrels of condensate per day. Bahlil conveyed that the project’s presence will not only strengthen national energy security but also create a multiplier effect for industrial development, state revenue, and the welfare of communities in Maluku and surrounding areas. The Abadi gas field in the Masela Block is managed by a consortium consisting of INPEX Masela Ltd with a 65 percent stake, Pertamina Hulu Energi with 20 percent, and Petronas Masela Sdn. Bhd. with 15 percent.
