Jakarta – A member of the House of Representatives (DPR) Commission XII, Beniyanto Tamoreka, has expressed appreciation for the groundbreaking of the Abadi Masela Block project by President Prabowo Subianto. He stated that the commencement of this strategic project marks an important milestone in strengthening national energy security while demonstrating the government’s commitment to accelerating the upstream oil and gas sector.

According to Beniyanto, the Masela Block is a strategic oil and gas project that has been anticipated for almost three decades. With the start of construction, Indonesia is sending a positive signal to the world that the government has a strong commitment to providing investment certainty while increasing national energy production.

“We appreciate the steps taken by President Prabowo and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia, who have successfully pushed for the start of the Masela Block construction. This is a crucial momentum to strengthen national energy security and increase investor confidence in Indonesia’s energy sector,” Beniyanto said in Jakarta on Thursday, 16 July 2026.

He assessed that the development of the Masela Block holds strategic significance as it will strengthen the national gas supply, support domestic energy needs, enhance industrial competitiveness, and contribute to state revenue. Amid rising national energy demand, accelerating upstream oil and gas projects is an essential part of safeguarding Indonesia’s future energy security.

Beniyanto added that the government’s success in initiating the Masela Block construction also highlights the importance of consistency in completing national strategic projects that have faced various challenges. Regulatory certainty, inter-agency synergy, and the commitment of all stakeholders are key factors in ensuring the project stays on target.

“The groundbreaking is a good start, but what is more important is ensuring this project is completed on time and can begin production immediately. Commission XII of the DPR will continue to carry out its oversight function so that development proceeds according to plan, has good governance, and provides optimal benefits for national energy security and the economy,” he stated.

Beniyanto also expressed hope that the development of the Masela Block will deliver tangible benefits to communities in Maluku and the Eastern Indonesia region through job creation, human resource capacity building, the growth of supporting industries, and increased economic activity in the surrounding areas.
