Police have named husband and wife RM and ER, owners of Marwah Wedding Organiser in East Jakarta, as suspects in a suspected fraud case involving dozens of prospective couples. Both suspects face up to four years in prison.

“Regarding these individuals, we have charged them under Articles 486 and 492 of the Criminal Code, with a maximum penalty of four years’ imprisonment,” said East Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKBP Bayu Kurniawan, to reporters on Monday, 1 June 2026.

Bayu stated that 58 couples were victims of RM and ER, with total losses amounting to Rp2.6 billion. However, he noted that the number of victims could increase.

“Based on our current data, we have identified 58 clients from Marwah Wedding with estimated losses of approximately Rp2.6 billion. However, there is a possibility of additional victims,” he said.

Bayu urged prospective couples to be more cautious when selecting a Wedding Organiser. He advised them to verify the credentials and track record of any WO before being tempted by cheap packages.

“From the East Jakarta Police Criminal Investigation Unit, we urge the public to exercise caution when choosing a Wedding Organiser. Check whether the WO is properly verified, has a good track record, and whether the offered prices are reasonable. If the price is too low, do not rush to trust it as it may be a scam,” he added.

RM and ER were arrested in West Bandung. Both have been formally charged and are currently in police custody. They are being prosecuted under Articles 492 and/or 486 of the Criminal Code.

“Already charged as suspects,” said East Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Kombes Alfian Nurrizal, when contacted on Sunday, 31 May.

The perpetrators failed to fulfil their obligations as per the agreement with the victims. Police are still conducting further investigations.

A total of 58 prospective couples have fallen victim to the WO owner’s scam, with estimated losses totalling Rp2.6 billion.
