Marwah Catering Couple Arrested on Fraud Charges
Police have arrested a married couple who own the Wedding Organizer (WO) Marwah Catering in East Jakarta over allegations of fraud.
East Jakarta Metro Police Chief Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal stated that the couple have been formally named as suspects in an embezzlement case following their arrest. Both were detained from Saturday, 30 May 2026.
“The suspects, husband RM and wife ER, are now formal suspects,” he told reporters on Sunday, 31 May.
“They are being held under Articles 492 and 486 of the Criminal Code concerning fraudulent acts and embezzlement, respectively, with the suspects detained since Saturday, 30 May 2026,” he added.
Alfian explained that, based on complaint desk data, 58 prospective couples reported being victims of the couple’s fraud. Two couples had already held their weddings but did not receive the promised services, while 56 others were unable to proceed with their planned ceremonies.
He stated that the provisional total loss from 24 verified victims amounts to approximately Rp2,658,885,000, with the figure likely to rise as investigations continue with other victims.
“The suspects failed to fulfil their WO duties after receiving payments from victims. They also went missing, causing numerous reports and complaints. Whether they planned to flee is still under investigation,” he said.
The case gained attention after a couple, Aldi (32) and Feny (32), went viral on social media when their wedding on 23 May at the Islamic Center in Bekasi City was cancelled. They claimed to have paid Rp85.5 million for the wedding package, but no vendors arrived on the day. Promised vendors for decoration, catering, entertainment, photography, and videography never materialised, forcing a simple nikah ceremony without the planned reception.
