Ma'ruf Cahyono Grilled by KPK Over Payments Received as MPR Secretary-General

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has examined former People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Secretary-General Ma’ruf Cahyono as a suspect in an alleged gratuity case. Investigators questioned Ma’ruf regarding payments received during his time in office. “During the examination, investigators clarified his official income as well as other payments received while he served as MPR Secretary-General,” KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters on Friday (26/6/2026). This marked the first time Ma’ruf was questioned by the KPK after being named a suspect in the case. The KPK examined Ma’ruf for approximately 10 hours the previous day. Despite his suspect status, the KPK has not yet detained Ma’ruf. The agency cited the need for further proceedings and the collection of additional evidence. “Naturally, further investigative processes and the gathering of additional evidence are still required so that the case is firm and strong before moving to phase two or transferring it to prosecution,” Budi stated. Meanwhile, Ma’ruf denied that investigators questioned him about any specific receipts. He claimed to have explained everything to investigators regarding the case under investigation. “I was just asked questions, and I explained according to the facts. No, there was no in-depth questioning about receiving money, I have explained everything,” Ma’ruf said. Ma’ruf also denied being asked about the Rp 17 billion gratuity mentioned by the KPK in the case. “No, it didn’t get to that. I mean, there were no questions like that,” he stated. For context, the KPK is currently investigating an alleged gratuity case related to procurement at the MPR. The commission named Ma’ruf, who served as MPR Secretary-General from 2019 to 2021, as a suspect. The KPK stated that the suspect, Ma’ruf, received Rp 17 billion. Investigators are still working to determine the exact amount of gratuities obtained by the suspect.
