Jakarta - Ma’ruf Amin, in his sermon as the imam during the Eid prayer at the Jakarta City Hall courtyard on Saturday (21/3/2026), highlighted the importance of maintaining unity amid the diversity of Indonesian society.

According to him, the differences that occur in Indonesia should not become a source of conflict.

He likened differences to musical instruments, which, when united, produce beautiful music.

“The violin is not the same as the piano, the drum is not the same as the flute. But when played together, beautiful music is born. So it is with our societal life,” said Ma’ruf Amin.

He stated that differences that are not managed well can trigger division.

However, conversely, if woven through social interactions, differences become a social strength.

Ma’ruf also reminded that Eid al-Fitr is a momentum to return to one’s innate nature, namely the pure and holy condition of humans.

Therefore, he invited Muslims not only to make Eid al-Fitr a ceremonial celebration, but also as a starting point for improving relations with fellow humans.

“Eid al-Fitr is a victory of moral and spiritual values,” he said.

The Eid prayer at Jakarta City Hall was attended by officials, including Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung, and Deputy Governor Rano Karno.

Also present were former Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo or Foke and DPRD Jakarta Chairman Khoirudin.
