Housing and Settlements Minister Maruarar Sirait stated that the target for the house renovation programme in 2026 has been increased to 400,000 units. Maruarar conveyed this after attending a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto.

The house renovation programme, named Bantuan Stimulan Perumahan Swadaya (BSPS), targets poor communities. “We just had a meeting with the President, and there was tremendous support from President Prabowo for people’s housing, one of which is the strategic step to increase the people’s house renovation,” said Maruarar at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, 6 April 2026.

Maruarar explained that the programme targets 45,000 units in 2025. Meanwhile, this year, the government is expanding the scope of houses to be repaired to 400,000 units.

He noted that last year, around 220 regencies/cities did not receive a quota for the house renovation programme. “This year, all regencies/cities throughout Indonesia will receive the house renovation programme from President Prabowo,” said Maruarar.

Furthermore, said Maruarar, several subordinates of Prabowo, such as Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, are preparing the scheme to repair hundreds of thousands of people’s houses.

For Maruarar, this programme has the potential to drive economic circulation in various regions. “This is a very significant programme, and it will move the economy and bring justice to the people,” said Maruarar.

At the end of 2025, Maruarar Sirait once stated that the government would increase the budget for the renovation programme for uninhabitable houses by around eight times. The amount of allocation for renovating uninhabitable houses, said Maruarar, is an instruction from President Prabowo to the ministry he leads.

He detailed that from the total Ministry of Housing and Settlements budget for 2026 of around Rp 10.89 trillion, an allocation of Rp 8.1 trillion or 80 percent has been directed by Prabowo specifically for repairing uninhabitable houses of poor people.

With the drastic increase in the house renovation allocation, said Maruarar, the President did not discuss budget efficiency as has been the usual call. “This policy (increasing the house renovation budget) is a pro-people budgetary policy; for poor people, the President does not talk about efficiency, but he is generous, generous in a positive sense, meaning prioritising the people,” said Maruarar on Friday night, 7 November 2025.
