Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister for Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait (Ara), has emphasised the importance of empowering micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the slum area redevelopment site in Menteng Tenggulun, South Jakarta, through cross-sector collaboration.

Maruarar Sirait stressed the importance of community economic empowerment alongside slum area redevelopment to enhance the welfare of beneficiary residents in the area.

“What is being fostered? How to prepare financial reports, how to prepare savings. Ultimately, if possible, they become bankable,” said the PKP Minister when met during an inspection of the progress of house renovations and slum area revitalisation in Menteng Tenggulun, South Jakarta, on Friday.

She noted that 35 MSME actors are receiving direct mentoring from banking professionals to enhance business capacity, including financial management and more orderly report preparation.

“I have repeatedly told our employees and outsiders. People often ask why the Housing Minister is dealing with (MSMEs), inviting PNM, inviting bankers; there are 10 banks mentoring 35 MSMEs (in the Menteng Tenggulun area),” said the PKP Minister.

The mentoring aims to make business actors bankable, thereby providing greater opportunities to obtain financing and sustainably expand their businesses.

The PKP Minister assessed that empowering human resources is the most important aspect in area redevelopment, as the success of physical development must be accompanied by improvements in local community welfare.

In addition to the economic sector, the Ministry of PKP is also involving 50 architects from the Jakarta Architects Association to contribute to designing renovated residents’ homes to make them more habitable.

All involved parties are working voluntarily in the spirit of collaboration, demonstrating that cross-sector synergy can be an effective solution in accelerating settlement area redevelopment.

She stated that this collaboration is the main strength in creating real change, while opening opportunities for the community to develop economically and socially in a sustainable manner.

In the future, this collaboration-based empowerment model is expected to be applied in various other regions as part of the national strategy to reduce slum areas while improving community welfare.

The government is renovating 152 uninhabitable housing units in the Menteng Tenggulun area, South Jakarta. The renovation is targeted to be completed by 15 June 2026 through collaborative efforts by various parties.

“The target for completing the renovation of uninhabitable houses in Menteng Tenggulun is 15 June 2026,” said the PKP Minister.
